Anyway today is a very special day, an official FIFA match day, in which tons of international friendlies take place. Today holds a little more importance to the games played than usual, as the World Cup is fast approaching (99 days!) and teams are looking to test out some of there talent, while still keeping with the some of their core XI. Or atleast thats the way I view it. Short joe commentary on each game, including where they rank on the March 2010 FIFA World Rankings in (parentheses):

Macedonia(64th) vs. Montenegro(71st)
Two weak European sides with no real importance, no care.
Final Score: Macedonia 2-1 Montenegro

Turkey(41st) vs. Honduras(35th)
Honduras looked good from what I saw in the first half, but their UEFA  opponents Turkey were too much I guess, as two goals sent them home with lots too ponder. Not good signs for my high hopeful Honduras side.
Final Score: Turkey 2-1 Honduras

Ivory Coast(22nd) vs South Korea(53rd)
Don’t let the difference in rank fool you, South Korea came into this game well organized and hungry to prove, while Drogba’s team is without a coach for the moment, something that might have affected them on the pitch. I didnt watch any of this, but from highlights, Drogba tried, but two set piece goals saw my Cheol friends win a fine game. Good signs for the Koreans, bad signs for Drogba.
Final Score: Ivory Coast 0-2 South Korea

Algeria(32nd) vs. Serbia(13th)
Our World Cup rivals got beat with some class as Serbia saw them away with a 3-0 victory. I didn’t see this game, nor did I see highlights, but this is good signs for the US come June. Also showing the power of Serbia, a growing UEFA power.
Final Score: Algeria 0-3 Serbia

Armenia(103rd) vs Belarus(79th)
Lowly ranked teams in an unimportant match, also no care.
Final score: Armenia 1-3 Belarus

Russia(12th) vs. Hungary (48th)
A “just for fun” match, as none of these teams missed out on the World Cup, with Russia only just. The last game with Guus Hiddink as Russia manager saw a draw, also rather unimportant if it wasnt for a big name like Russia.
Final Score: Russia 1-1 Hungary

Luxembourg(126th) vs.  Azerbaijan(109th)
Two UEFA minnows, no importance, no care.
Final Score: Luxembourg 1-2 Azerbaijan

Switzerland(15th) vs Uruguay(19th)
After a first half penalty for Switzerland was equalized with a Diego Forlan volley, the South Americans did well to beat a European team and prove they will be a threat in the World Cup. As for Switzerland, they need slight improvements to face a Chile squad, but should be (hopefully not though) strong enough to beat Honduras. I still don’t see them leaving the group stage though.
Final Score: Switzerland 1-3 Uruguay

Georgia(124th) vs. Armenia(103rd)
Joe shows no interest in this game.
Final Score: Georgia 2-1 Armenia

Austria(56th) vs, Denmark(33rd)
Not good signs for the World Cup hopefuls, especially since the rest of their group showed good play today.
Final Score: Austria 2-1 Denmark

Greece(10th) vs Senegal(94th)
What an upset the Africans pulled! The Greeks broke into the top ten this month, only to be beaten in convincing fashion by an always strong Senegal team. Not good for the Word Cup finalists, and I dont see them making it out of Groub B.
Final Score: Greece 0-2 Senegal

Poland(59th) vs. Bulgaria(30th)
I like that the once World Cup participant won and pulled off a small upset, because I met a guy from Poland when I was in Vancouver. He had a yellow van and talked with a heavy accent. He was awesome.
Final Score: Poland 2-0 Bulgaria

Angola(86th) vs. Latvia(47th)
The host of this years Africa Cup of Nations drew with a side seemingly stronger than they are. No real importance, but a good boost for Angola.
Final Score: Angola 1-1 Latvia

Albania(96th) vs Northern Ireland(39th)
Albania pulls small upset in friendly.
Final Score: Albania 1-0 Northern Ireland

Cyprus(66th) vs. Iceland(91st)
What?

Belgium(68th) vs. Croatia(11th)
A Croatia side that missed out on the Cup this year win through a Niko Kranjcar goal. Good work from the Tottenham man.
Final Score: Belgium 0-1 Croatia

Slovakia(31st) vs. Norway (33rd)
The World Cup-bound Slovakians got a wake up call with this. Tightly contested, but still a loss.
Final Score: Slovakia 0-1 Norway

Germany(5th) vs. Argentina(9th)
A rather important game for both powerhouse countries, as they try to see where they stand against a strong opponent prior to the Cup. Germany didn’t show good form, and the ‘keeper made very poor decisions and gifted Argentina a victory. But to be fair, Argentina played well, with Messi absent for amounts of time in the 4-4-2. But with still no call up to either Cambiasso or Riquelme, the mid is looking weaker than the attack. But Argentina is still one of my favorites to win, while I see Germany being eliminated in the quarters, possibly sooner. I wish I would have seen this game, but I watched the USA game instead.
Final Score: Germany 0-1 Argentina

Bosnia-Herzegovina(49th) vs. Ghana(28th)
The good form the Bosnians showed during the qualification process of the World Cup continued and showed they would have been a good WC opponent had it not been for Portugal. Ghana were without star Michael Essien, which is quite evident on the pitch. Ghana needs Essien for the Cup.
Final Score: Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-1 Ghana

Moldova(110th) vs, Kazakhstan(127th)
i dont even know about this one.
Final Score: 1-0 Moldova win

Nigeria(21st) vs. Congo DR(103rd)
The World Cup hopefuls won with 5 goals to show they are no pushover. While Congo is a relatively weak team, scoring 5 goals is nothing to shneeze at. I think they’ll be competing with Greece for that runner-up spot in group B.
Final Score: Nigeria 5-2 Congo DR

Slovenia(27th) vs. Qatar(92nd)
The giant-killing Slovenians, and possibly US’s main group C rivals, showed they are a nation with increasing football power by dismantling the weaker AFC side Qatar. 4 goals and crucial victories over Russia should boost their egos before June 11th.
Final Score: Slovenia 4-1 Qatar

Wales(76th) vs. Sweden(42nd)
Two teams hopeful to make an impact on Euro 2012, Sweden especially after failing to make the World Cup for the first time since ’98. Seemed like a fun match to watch, but I didnt pay attention to it.
Final Score: Wales 0-1 Sweden

Malta(150th) vs. Finland(52nd)
I didnt hear or read anything on this one, but predictably Finland won, but only just.
Final Score: Malta 1-2 Finland

South Africa(81st) vs. Namibia(111th)
The World Cup hosts again showed they might be the first host country EVER to not make it out of the group stage. They came from behind to tie an amateurish Namibia side, and this was an experimental team, so not all is bad. Hopefully they go to the round of 16 along with Mexico.
Final Score: South Africa 1-1 Namibia

Romania(36th) vs. Israel(26th)
Israel had something to prove after poor showings in the qualifications process, and won coolly.
Final Score: Romania 0-2 Israel

England(8th) vs. Egypt(17th)
Peter Crouch reigns supreme! My man scores twice as a substitute to keep his England scoring record tops. The Tottenham man has made his case convincingly to go to the World Cup. Egypt came into this game wanting, possibly needing, a win after losing to Algeria in November to miss the Cup finals. Many have stated that they are the strongest team in Africa after winning the Africa Cup of Nations for the 3rd time in a row, mostly all from Egypt, and a victory here would cement that. Unfortunately for them, Crouch proved the man of the hour and the stronger side went home with a happy victory. But a good showing from them should make them proud.
Final Score: England 3-1 Egypt

Venezuela(49th) vs. Panama(78th)
What would seem as a good showing from the CONCACAF opponents, or possibly a poor one from the COMNEBOl side, saw the Central Americans win. I support any team from Central America, and this was a pleasant surprise

El Salvador(72nd) vs. Guatemala(129th)
Hurray for the Chapines! The home country of both of my parents, and the motherland took the victory from the stronger(?) Central American side. Another pleasant surprise, but I didnt read much on this.

Scotland(45th) vs. Czech Republic(25th)
I didn’t read much into this, but it would seem as if the Scotland side stole the victory over the Czechs, who were without the service of Petr Czech. A second half goal was enough for Scotland to win their first friendly victory at Hampden Park since 1996, quite a drought.
Final Score: Scotland 1-0 Czech Republic

France(7th) vs. Spain(1st)
Probably one of the most important games of today, if not the most important match of the day, world leaders Spain took a convincing victory over France, in France, for the first time since 1968. The Spaniards had not lost a game since they were beaten by the US (!!!) in June, and continued their run with a superb win over a powerhouse of a nation. Two goals, Villa and Ramos goals, proved to be enough. Also the new Spain jerseys, NICE!
Final Score: France 0-2 Spain

Portugal(6th) vs. China(83rd)
After some stellar performances today with stonger teams beating, and handling, weaker teams, Portugal’s performance is something that is less then stellar. Cristiano Ronaldo only played 45 min but Almeida and Liedson lead the ball to the back of the net. Kinda boring if you ask me.
Final Score: Portugal 2-0 China

New Zealand(80th) vs. Mexico(15th)
This one I watched, with Mexico dominating the whole match. I was very surprised to see Mexico and New Zealand go scoreless in the first half, mostly thanks to a missed opportunity by Cuau and some selfish play by Giovanni Dos Santos, but also solid defense kept it at nil. Until Chicharito came on and scored a beautiful header, then Vela made impressive moves in the box, did Mexico convince of their scoring prowess. With this and a 5-0 crushing of Bolivia, Mexico needs a real test, which they will get come May, when they play the likes of England, Netherlands, and Italy.
Final Score: New Zealand 0-2 Mexico

In any case today is an official FIFA day, meaning mad friendlies are going to be played today, namely USA vs Netherlands, Argentina vs Germany, France vs Spain, and several other “big games”.
